Founded in Boulder in 2023. The observation that led to Voltsynth was not a gap in the software market. It was watching a distribution operations team spend four hours every morning reconciling battery dispatch schedules before the day-ahead window closed, with a SCADA system that could not see behind the meter.
Every kilowatt-hour of solar and storage that gets curtailed because the dispatch coordination was not ready in time is a failure of software, not a failure of the grid. We build the forecast and dispatch intelligence that eliminates that failure mode, one operator at a time.
Anna spent several years in grid operations and demand-response program management before founding Voltsynth in 2023. Working directly with distribution operators in the Mountain West, she watched DER coordination break down as portfolio sizes crossed the threshold where manual dispatch scheduling stopped working. The tipping point was not a dramatic failure. It was the daily grind: operators who knew what needed to happen but could not execute it fast enough because the tools were not built for the problem.
The data was not the problem. SCADA systems, smart meters, and historian archives produced more interval data than any operator could process manually. What was missing was a system that could read all of it simultaneously, model each asset's constraints, incorporate real-time LMP and weather signals, and produce a dispatch decision that was correct before market close. That is exactly what Voltsynth is built to do.

Boulder has one of the densest cleantech ecosystems in the US. NREL is a few miles west. Mountain West cooperative utilities, DER developers, and distribution system operators are active in the region. NREL is a neighbor, not a partner or customer, but being close to where grid modernization research actually happens informs which problems are worth solving and what the operator community is dealing with in practice.
